HUNTING SEASON WINS BEST FILM AWARD AT THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL & AWARDS MACAO

Macao, December 14, 2017 (Thursday)

The 2nd International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao closed this evening with a glittering award ceremony at the Macao Cultural Centre, hosted by Astrid Chan Chi Ching and Laurence Cheng Tan Shui.

IFFAM Artistic Director Mike Goodridge, President of Organizing Committee of IFFAM Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, and IFFAM Organizing Committee Executive Vice-President Alvin Chau welcomed guests at this evening’s red carpet event, which was broadcast live on TDM.

Opening the ceremony, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes commented: “After an enchanting seven day cinematic journey, the 2nd IFFAM draws to a close. We have done our best to shape every section into profound and rewarding experiences, building on our strong commitment to help young filmmakers to venture into the global film industry and reach new heights. We have created an exchange platform for industry professionals from across the world, and tailor-made a training program for aspiring Macanese filmmakers to broaden their international perspectives, with our goal to foster cultural and creative industry development and immerse local audiences into a new depth of appreciation for international films.
The Macao Special Administrative Region Government has expressed its dedication to pushing forward the development of various creative industries through a blend of creative elements, and enriching travellers’ cultural experience in Macao as a city of events. In line with this endeavour, it is our aspiration to forge the Film Festival into one of the major international film events in Asia.”

Natalia Garagiola’s HUNTING SEASON was presented with the Best Film Award, which was decided by the international Competition Jury comprising Jury President Laurent Cantet and jury members Joan Chen, Jessica Hausner, Lawrence Osborne and Royston Tan. The Competition line-up comprised ten films from first and second time directors. Alongside their Award, Garagiola and producers Santiago Gallelli, Matias Roveda, Benjamin Domenech and Gonzalo Tobal received a cash prize of US$60,000. The Best Film Award was presented by Michelle Yeoh and Laurent Cantet.

Other Official Competition awards presented tonight included:

Jury Prize: WRATH OF SILENCE (presented by Royston Tan and Joan Chen)

Best Director: Xavier Legrand for CUSTODY (presented by Jessica Hausner and Martin Koolhoven)

Best Actor: Song Yang for WRATH OF SILENCE (presented by Kara Wai)

Best Actress: Jessie Buckley for BEAST (presented by Donnie Yen)

Jury President Laurent Cantet commented: “The jury was impressed by Hunting Season’s fluid style and construction and by the precision of its directing. The film deals with subjects both difficult and delicate: mourning for a mother’s death, the reconciliation between estranged fathers and sons, the loneliness of young men. For all these reasons, but also for the quality of its acting, the jury has awarded Hunting Season the prize for Best Film of the Festival.”
