Synopsis

Sweet Country is set in 1929 in outback Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia. When an Aboriginal head stockman kills an abusive white World War I veteran in self-defence, he and his pregnant wife go on the run across country with a posse on his trail. An expert bushman, he eludes his pursuers across the outback and through beautiful desert plains. Eventually, however, for the sake of his wife’s health, he turns himself in and a trial is held in town. The question is, in a society where the white man is boss, will justice be served?
