The press conference and signing ceremony of the collaboration agreements of “International Film Festival & Awards.Macao” (“IFFAM” or the “Film Festival”) was held on 16th June, 2019 in Shanghai. With the aim of enhancing the film industry, 4th IFFAM is joining with “Shanghai International Film Festival” (SIFF) and “Shanghai Film Art Academy” (SFAA) and collaboration agreements are signed during the press conference.

During the press conference, Artistic Director of IFFAM, Mike Goodridge also revealed the festival programme of this year, “We are delighted to announce that Mr. Peter Chan Ho-sun will serve as International Competition Jury President at the 4th edition of the festival. He is one of the most accomplished and successful Hong Kong filmmakers in recent history. The high quality of his Pan-Asian films has stimulated the development of the Asian Film Industry in general. I believe that he will bring his great experience and wisdom to the jury and the filmmakers this December.”

He also remarked, “This year’s IFFAM is launching its first ever ‘Shorts Competition’ in its fourth edition. This will be a curated selection of ten Chinese-language short narrative films from young directors from around the region. In the first year of the section, we will work specifically with film schools and institutions in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao. Besides, we will be increasing the number of prizes in the New Chinese Cinema category which includes Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay.”

IFFAM also announced that internationally renowned star Carina Lau would be the Talent Ambassador of this year, together with Kim Yong-Hwa from South Korea, Karan Johar from India and Wang Xiaoshuai from Mainland China as IFFAM Ambassadors.

In addition to IFFAM, Macau film directors Tracy Choi and Harriet Wong have participated in the “22nd Shanghai International Film Festival – SIFF NEXT” activities; a separate session for the incubation of new talents in the Chinese-speaking region. Tracy and Harriet interacted with Shanghai Young filmmakers during the activities.

Furthermore, The Macau Films & Television Productions and Culture Association (MFTPA) partners with the world-renowned Torino Film Lab (TFL) this year and launched a Macao-TorinoFilmLab training programme, “Script & Creative Production Workshop and Training Programme”. Three selected teams from Macao together with a project from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) have participated in the TorinoFilmLab Extended Programme held in Turin, Italy. The programme includes two workshops: Script Development and Creative Production. After the training, all participants will also join the TFL Meeting event co-production forum and a chance to participate in the Torino Film Festival in November. The participation of multiple filmmakers and projects interacting with other young Torino attendees from around the globe will jump-start the process of building a new and strong foundation for the renaissance of filmmaking in and from Macao. The aim of this programme is to establish IFFAM as a hub for new film-makers in Asia and create industry programmes to support them and help incubate their first and second features.

The 4th International Film Festival and Awards • Macao (“IFFAM” or the “Film Festival”) , organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macau Films & Television Productions and Culture Association (MFTPA) will be held from 5th to 10th December 2019 in Macao Cultural Centre.
