SYNOPSIS

The story of Jewish gangster David “Noodles” Aaronson and his buddies, from their childhoods in 1920s New York through 1968 when Noodles return to the city after a long absence. There’s his best friend Max, their sidekicks Cockeye and Patsy, local restaurant manager Fat Moe and his beautiful sister Deborah. Inspired by Harry Grey’s autobiographical book The Hoods, the film was written by six Italian screenwriters including Leone and features a famous score by Ennio Morricone.

DIRECTOR

Sergio Leone

Born in 1929 in Rome, Italy, to an actress and a film director, Sergio Leone became one of the most iconic directors of all time, despite the fact that he only ever directed a handful of films. He first made his mark worldwide in the 1960s with a famous series of so-called “spaghetti Westerns” – A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1966) and Once Upon A Time In The West (1968). The uncompromising violence and harsh poetry of these films inspired generations of filmmakers, from Sam Peckinpah to Quentin Tarantino. Leone’s final film was Once Upon a Time in America (1984). He was planning a film about the WWII siege of Leningrad when he died in 1989.
